Can We Overcome Moral Erosion?
How can India become an ideal nation on the issues of accountability? For the last two decades we have made rapid strides in the field of economic upliftment of the people, increased our international standing and are now a major power in terms of influencing the international policies and decisions. But where do we stand on the morality ladder? Public offices are fast becoming private property, politics is dominated by dangerous nexus of politicians and criminals fanned by inept and corrupt bureaucracy and now questions are being raised about the integrity and honesty of our judiciary. Our police are nothing but an essential evil which we have to tolerate. The irony is that we have accepted this dip in character in every walk of life and there is a sense of resignation and public apathy.
Are the politicians only to be blamed for the erosion of moral life? What about teachers, doctors and lawyers. Their professional duties are far from satisfactory. The watchdog of our drmocracy, the press is also corrupted with their dangerous liaisons with the politicians and the businessmen. The corruption in the business and economic sphere is also all pervasive.
What is the way out? We need strict laws, well defined in terms of legal and illegal. There is no harm in adopting some stringent laws from China. Why even after so many decades of freedom and despite of the strong public opinion the political parties continue to field criminals in the elections. This must stop as well as the wastage of money in the elections. Quick delivery of justice and effective punishment must go hand in hand .
Right to information is an important step in the goal of transparency which is so vital for a progressive and clean society. Above all in my view we should ensure that basic values are developed from the early stage. Here the role of school and family is most important.

Minister and His Cattle
Here is a minister in India calling people whom he is supposed to serve as cattle herd. The furor over his remarks is right. Why are we so obsessed with what the ministers utter? The values of serving and addressing the genuine concerns of the people has only become a showpiece and there is no secrecy in the fact that our ministers are there only to serve their own ends with total disregard for the common man.

Shocking Senence
The arrest and the sentence of 20 years of a journalist in Sri Lanka has shocked human right activists and media watchdogs. this judgement follows the recent human rights violations in the Sri Lankan army war against the LTTE has confirmed the worst fears of the human right watchdogs and the international media about continuing human rights violations in the island nation.
In the entire South Asia and South East Asia there are dark spots as far as the rise of dictatorship and human rights violations is concerned.Now there is a growing demand in India and mainly in Tamil Nadu that India should not send its cricket team to Sri Lanka in the 1st week of September.Will it serve any purpose. boycotting of the sports events has not helped in the past and there is no point in stopping the team to tour the island nation. Instead ground should be prepared to put forward the views diplomatically and in a cordial atmosphere.
