Pakistan and Taliban

Taliban the Monster Now Galloping the Creator

The press and electronic media are flush with reports about possible Pakistan break up with some experts commenting it to be the reality in less than a year. The prediction may be a bit vague but we could not dismiss it altogether. The spread of Taliban is not confined to a province but it has spread to every region as in the case of recent incidents in Lahore.
Still the establishment is putting a brave front and Musharraf during his Delhi visit dismissed the Taliban influence as minimal. The real issues to be highlighted are who is controlling Pakistan and what their long term interest is and what their goal towards their neighbours is. As is widely perceived it is the military and their agencies like ISI which are the real power wielders. President Zardari fears the increasing spread of Taliban. But we must keep in mind that it was Pakistan’s overt support to Taliban earlier when Taliban was ousted from regime and even earlier to keep its interests alive in the region. Now with the increasing US pressure the military/ISI the situation there is very confusing with two pillars of power military and the civilian government having their own agenda and each counter balancing the other. On one hand it appears that the army and the ISI are just not giving their support to political establishment in controlling the Taliban. The situation is really very frightening and it is evident that the monster that is Taliban created by Pakistan to check their neighbours is threatening to demolish the creator and the perpetuator.
